Happy Monday everybody! I thought I’d post about a little Vegas getaway Val and I went on with Cam. He had a business conference so we tagged along.
It’s about a 6-6.5 hour drive from SLC to Vegas. I hate hate hate long car rides. But occasionally I will put up with them :). Especially if there is chocolate at the end! First stop in Vegas, the Ethel M Chocolate factory.
There is a self guided tour where you can look into some of the rooms where the sugar magic happens. Or in this case, the butter magic. Oh man, definitely going to have to do double workouts on this trip.
They have a store there as well, selling lots of delicious overpriced goodies. These little babies were $2 a piece! My recommendation would be to either buy the biggest box so that the chocolates are less money per piece, or opt to buy a chocolate bar, you get more bang for you buck that way.
There is also a fun cactus garden outside the chocolate factory. If it hadn’t been 108 degrees, we would have stuck around longer. We walked quickly through the paths, snapped a few pics, admired the Mickey cactus and left asap. The heat would be a growing trend on this trip.
After the chocolate factory we had lunch, wandered a shopping center, and then headed to the Palazzo to check into our room. The Palazzo is basically an extension of the Venetian. Valerie was super excited about the room. All the rooms are suites, so she thought it was just the best thing ever.
Here’s the fam enjoying the living room area.
We haven’t officially started a getaway until someone dive bombs the bed 🙂
Next, we had to check out the pools. There were tons of pool and hot tubs! Thank goodness, since it was the only way to be outside and not have your face melt off.
I think I need one of these princess type thingies in my backyard!
Since I knew we were heading to a buffet for dinner I thought I ‘d better make the family workout in the pool a bit, even if they didn’t know it. We found a long skinny pool that had a shallow section on each end and a stretch of deeper water in the middle. It was perfect for racing. Since it was only an hour before closing there were hardly any other people too, perfect. Ready, set, go! Army crawl the shallow parts, swim the middle…for an hour. Cameron wised up to my plan and ditched us about 20 minutes in for the the hot tub, but Val thought it was the best game ever.
Ok time to get out of here…starving!
One last look at the scenery. Ah, so pretty.
We went to the Spice Market Buffet at The Planet Hollywood casino. Did you know that Groupon has lots of deals on the strip?! Make sure to check it out before you travel, it’s a great way to save some money.
Seafood!! Yum! Valerie could live off of crab legs and California rolls. Crazy kid. I would have rather starved than eat that when I was her age.
One of my favorite things about the Spice Market is the cotton candy. Bonus, cotton candy only has like 80 calories in a big wand like this!
Ok, now that we are all going to explode, we better walk it off. We walked to the Bellagio, watched the fountain and then saw the atrium. It was a nice way to end the night.
Then next day I hit the gym at the Palazzo. I did a 10k on the mill and then wandered around then gym contemplating using the weights. Yeah, weights didn’t happen. But I did discover a pathway that led to the gym at the Venetian. OMG, why didn’t I go there to workout?! It was amazing. I’ll tell you about that in few minutes.
So after I finally got back to the room it was lunch time. I rallied the troop and went to eat. After lunch we swam for a couple hours. It was HOT! 111 Degrees. If you were not submersed in the water I’m pretty sure you would have fried up like a piece of bacon.
Cam left us to go to some meeting so Val and I continued to pool hop until it was time to get ready for the open floor thing at the convention.
McKesson was the company putting on the convention and I have to say, they know how to throw a party. They are super family friendly and invite spouses and kids to tons of events. They even had a camp that kids could go to and do super fun activities. I wish Val would have wanted to go :(. One day they gave each kid a whole cake and let them decorate it with all kinds of cool stuff. Maybe next year.
Onto the Open Floor/Party. All the vendors were out with lots of products for pharmacies. We wandered around and got samples. They even had a fun photo booth. Val and I took some pics, super fun.
The best part was to yummy food. There were tables set up everywhere with different food stations. My favorite was the fruit and cheese station. Oh my goodness.
But the cupcakes are a close second. Italian butter cream, need I say more?
Afterwards the night was still young so we decided to check out the shopping at the Palazzo and Venetian.
This sign says it all.
Look! I restrained myself! I only got one of each candy I wanted from the bulk section!
We shopped and nibbled candy for quite some time before calling it a night. We had a big day ahead of us tomorrow.
I was up early to burn off some sugar. I learned from the day before that the gym at the Venetian is 100x cooler than the one at the Palazzo. I walked over there and proceeded to run another 10k with a 1 mile walk after. Next I had to try out some of the cool machines I’ve never tried before. There was a rowing machine that has a big water belt, so you’re actually rowing water, very cool and great for the upper body. I did that for 10 minutes before moving on to a stepper. I’ve seen those big stair climbers on The Biggest Loser where there’s actually a staircase that moves, but I’d never done one. Wholly cow it was hard. I stayed on that thing for 12 minutes and I dying. Ok enough of that thing. Then I tried a couple weight machines and called it a day.
If I would of had all day to workout I totally would have. The gym is included in the resort fees but you can pay to upgrade to fitness classes, that sounded amazing, for only $20. They had boot camp, pilates, yoga, and rock climbing! Look at this wall, so cool.
The big item on the agenda for Val and I today was, the Biebs. Cam had meetings so this would be mostly a girls day for us. Gotta love making memories with my baby girl.
We lucked out and got last minute tickets on ticket master. They often release more tickets right before an event, lucky us.
But before the concert we had to check out M&M world. A must do on every trip the Vegas.
As well as the Coke store. Upstairs you can get flavors from around the world. Our last trip we got a giant watermelon soda from China. This time it was the Vegitabeta from Japan, delicious. Nothing like an ice cold drink for the 117 degree day!
We also hit up Fashion Show mall. Amazing sales, loved it.
After our outings, we hustled to the room to get ready for the night. We didn’t even have time to eat dinner. Big mistake. But look how cute my little lady is 🙂
Haha, here I am feeling sweaty already. It was a long walk from the parking lot to the arena!
So excited for the concert to start!
There were a couple of opening acts and long waits in between so we had to grab dinner from the concessions, ugh. Note for others, the MGM Garden does not accept American Express, which is all I had. Luckily I stuffed $6 in my bag at the last minute. Oh yeah, that bought one pretzel!
Finally Justin came out and I was reassured that I’m definitely old. The girls in the crowd were much older than my babe and very aggressive. Oh well, that made it so we could see really well. Since they were totally dumb and constantly leaving their seats to try and sneak closer.
All personal life opinions aside :), Bieber puts on a good show. Val had a fab time and we have another wonderful memory.
Another note for the MGM Garden. Do not park at the MGM! Take a cab, park at a nearby hotel, anything but the MGM. We took our time leaving and still waited 90 minutes before even getting out of our parking stall! I just turned on the AC, locked the doors, and we slept. It was insanity. But we survived.
Then next day we drove home.
